After you’ve uploaded a data file, if you’re not able to modify the feature type in Decanter AI, try the following troubleshooting steps:

Scenario 1: In excel, when there are decimal data, excel may convert them to scientific format (eg. 1.2345 -> 1234.5 E-3). Due to the characters in scientific format data, Decanter AI will automatically assign those columns as categorical. To resolve this, check your data in notepad for data that contains “E+” or “E-” characters to determine if this is what’s causing the issue.

Scenario 2: When there are null data in the dataset, some system impute those fields with N/A or NAN. If a numerical column contains these character data, Decanter AI will automatically assign the column as categorical. To resolve this, check your data in notepad for data that contains "N/A", "NaN", "NA", "NAN" characters to determine if this is what’s causing the issue.

Scenario 3: If the column doesn’t contain any data, only has the feature/column name, Decanter will assume the column is a categorical column. If this column is needed, fill in the correct data in the fields, or perform imputation before uploading to Decanter AI.
